Not only beautiful but sustainable too! You will explore the rainforest from the floor to the canopy and experience breathtaking views from this canopy boardwalk
Mamu Tropical Skywalk Queensland the Boardwalk in the Rainforest Canopy
In 2006 Cyclone Larry caused natural clearings in the Wooroonooran National Park rainforest. This made it the perfect place to construct the Mamu Tropical Skywalk Queensland. Using unpainted galvanised steel and recycled plastic. Not only beautiful but sustainable too!
Everybody should take the time to visit this incredible place. You will find it on the Palmerston Highway. Explore the rainforest from the floor to the canopy. Meanwhile, discover an elevated walkway rising from ground level.
The panoramic views of the rainforest are simply breathtaking. The boardwalk is 15 metres high in addition to an observation tower escalating to 37 metres!
There are comfortable seating options along the way if you need a rest. In total, there are more than 1100 metres of forest walking tracks here.
Meeting the locals
Get up close to some of the spectacular butterfly, bird and mammal species. A lot of the mammals tend to be more active at night. However, you may be lucky enough to see the Lumholtz tree kangaroo while you’re up in the canopy.
More than 150 bird species can be found in the area of the Mamu Tropical Skywalk Queensland. They are very important to the survival of the rainforest. They will eat the fruits of the trees, then disperse the seeds. Therefore, this ensures the rainforest trees can then re-grow.
The oldest living tropical rainforest on the planet
400 million years ago, this area was deep under the ocean. Over about 60 million years, sediments condensed into rock. Around 360 million years ago, the Earth upheavals pushed the rock upwards. As a result, this created the high mountain ranges.
Mamu Tropical Skywalk Queensland is the homeland of the Ma Mu Aboriginal people. They welcome you to their country and ask that you visit respectfully. You will hear their stories. Learn about the traditional uses of many of the trees, plants and animals.
Forest Walk
Explore the rainforest from ground level, with more than 1 km of hardened walking tracks. From here, you’ll have access to the elevated boardwalk.
